CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – After winning six in a row, the Charlottesville Tom Sox merely replayed the second game of their July 16th doubleheader against the Woodstock River Bandits that was postponed. The lightning only reserved the inevitable, as the Tom Sox met the same fate, falling 7-0.

Deja vu is an understatement when describing this game. Woodstock scored one run in each of the first two innings before the weather ultimately pushed this game back. The box score proved that ‘the ball doesn’t lie’, as that was exactly how this game started. A misjudged line drive and a solo shot left the score as if we resumed where we left off.

The week-long wait wasn’t kind to the Tom Sox, however. Woodstock scored five more runs coming off of a bases-loaded walk, a 2-RBI single, and a second home run by Tomas Sanchez. The score read 7-0 by the fifth inning stretch.

Charlottesville drove to the field feeling the hangover from the heat of the night before, both from the sun and the stat sheet. So much so that even shortstop Kyle Edwards (Old Dominion) stepped on the mound, and pitcher Braden Halladay (High Point) stepped in to pinch hit. Edwards set the Bandits down 1-2-3 in the seventh, while Halladay struck out to end the game.

Emmett Bice (Charleston) took the mound for Charlottesville and struggled throughout the night. Bice allowed a run in four of his five innings, yielding seven total. He allowed eight hits, walked four, and struck out one of his 28 batters faced.

The Tom Sox look to bounce back as they head to Covington tomorrow for a game against the Lumberjacks. First pitch at Casey Field will be thrown at 7 P.M.

Additional Notes

  • The Tom Sox were shut out for the seventh time this season, extending the team record set earlier this year. 47% of their losses (7 of 15) have been via shutout.

  • Following a Harrisonburg win and Waynesboro loss tonight, the Tom Sox now sit tied for second in the South division and one game behind the Turks for the division lead.
