Charlottesville Tom Sox Welcome Brett Mays to Complete 2020 Coaching Staff

The reigning Valley Baseball League champion Charlottesville Tom Sox are proud to announce Brett Mays as an Assistant Coach for the 2020 season, completing the coaching staff for the upcoming season.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The reigning Valley Baseball League champion Charlottesville Tom Sox are proud to announce Brett Mays as an Assistant Coach for the 2020 season, completing the coaching staff for the upcoming season.

Mays joins the Tom Sox while serving as the Pitching Coach at Bryant & Stratton College in Virginia Beach, where he has coached since July 2019. Additionally, Brett serves as a Head Coach and the Facility Pitching Coordinator at Hitters Warehouse Training Academy in his hometown of Newport News.

Prior to joining Bryant & Stratton, Mays spent four years as the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Stratford University, where he was in charge of the pitching staff. Under Mays’ direction, the Cardinal worked to a .262 BAA, which ranked 4th in the USCAA.

Mays began his collegiate career at Marshall University, where he pitched one season for the Thundering Herd. He then transferred to Christopher Newport University in Newport News where he pitched for the remainder of his career. Mays totaled 23 appearances over his three seasons for the Captains, working to a 1.38 ERA in his senior season.

Prior to college, Mays pitched at Woodside High School in Newport News, where he earned First Team All-District, First Team All-Region, and First Team All-State honors his senior season.
Brett currently resides in Hampton with his wife, Kala.

Mays joins Head Coach Kory Koehler, Bench Coach James Kirk, Pitching Coach John Maley, and Assistant Coach Chris Madison on the 2020 staff. The Charlottesville Tom Sox are incredibly excited to have Brett Mays join us as an Assistant Coach for the 2020 season!

It was only a matter of time, but the future is now. Texas Rangers Manager Bruce Bochy announced Friday that former Tom Sox star Wyatt Langford, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft, will begin his season on the Major League roster for the defending World Series champions.
